Transnationalism Fellowship Program

A central component of ARENET´s Transnationalism Initiative is its Transnationalism Fellowship Program. This Program has been supported by the U.S. Department of State and Mexico’s Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the JM Kaplan Fund and coordinated by Greta de León, ARENET´s Executive Director.

Since 2002, over a hundred scholars divided between Mexicans and U.S. citizens, have been appointed as Transnationalism Fellows, the Mexican scholars conducting their research at U.S. institutions that are members of the Network and the U.S. scholars at Mexican member institutions. At the end of their fellowship period the Fellows present the results of their project at our Annual Transnationalism Forum.

Objectives

  • To promote cooperation among scholars, institutions, and other organizations in planning and implementing collaborative research on U.S.-Mexican Transnationalism.
  • To provide a forum within which researchers, policy makers, and practitioners in the United States and Mexico can exchange perspectives on transnationalism-related phenomena
  • To contribute to a more profound understanding of transnationalism among scholars and non-scholars alike by making the results of this research and exchange available through a variety of media.
  • To create research, educational, and training opportunities for U.S. and Mexican students, professional scholars, and other individuals whose scholarly interests focus on this theme
